Scholarship availability per Division
Here’s information for all the organizations who are offering scholarships.
NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA
In the NCAA there are 3 divisions: Division 1, Division 2, and Division 3 with Division 1 being the “highest” and Division 3 being the “lowest”
NCAA D1 has 13 full scholarships for men and 15 full scholarships for women. This is what is called a “free ride” no to little expenses out of pocket.
NCAA D2 has 10 for both men and women. Every D2 is not created equal so ask questions first. These 10 can be divided up into multiple players if they want. If I’m assuming…really good players are going to get fulls and “Okay” players or players with good grades will get the partials. Division 2 is highly competitive but you need to do your research on schools recruiting you!
NCAA D3 is mostly high academic schools and I’ve seen that a lot of them are private schools. Academic money could be an option for you getting a free ride! Highly competitive hoops as well just no ATHLETIC scholarships.
NAIA is a total different entity. It stands for “National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics”
🚨FUN FACT: NAIA was the first entity to allow blacks to play sports in college and the first to allow women to compete for national championships.
They have two divisions: Division 1 & Division 2.
Division 1 in men’s and women’s basketball are given 11 partial/equivalency scholarships.
Division 2 gives 6 in men’s. Don’t think D2s give women scholarships if they have teams.
Then there’s NJCAA which is National Junior College Athletic Association .
There are 24 Regions in JUCO that could be close to your area. Research njcaa.org to find out what schools are close to you.
Most times junior college is not hard to pay for and you play highly competitive players from across the world! They have 15 equivalency scholarships, but not every JUCO is created equal! Do your research and ask questions!! Great option for kids wanting to continue their basketball careers.
Going to JUCO will give you the opportunity to be recruited!
